Mahjong Solitaire: privacy policy
No account and no sign-up. Your progress and settings stay on your device. Only the services that make the game work receive data: the app store (downloads, purchases and ratings), the ad network (the optional rewarded videos, Google Play version), Google Play Games (achievements, Google Play version), our device-check service (Google Play version) and, in the Huawei AppGallery version, GitHub (theme music and fonts). Each one is described below.
Data on your device
Game progress, statistics, streak, hints, settings, the board you are playing, the items you own and your wallet are kept in the app's private storage on your device. Progress and the wallet are also kept as a copy sealed with a hardware key of the device; the game trusts the sealed copy, and that copy never leaves the device and is excluded from Android backup. If Android backup to your Google account is on, your progress, settings and the board in progress may be included in it; we never receive this data. The wallet and purchases are left out of the backup on purpose: purchases come back from the store with Restore purchases. If you switch on the daily reminder, the game sets a notification on your phone only; nothing is sent anywhere. The game itself has no analytics or crash-reporting service.
Progress file
"Save progress to file" in Settings creates a file only when you choose it, and stores it where you choose. The file holds progress, statistics, streak and settings, never purchases or payment data. Loading a file replaces these on the phone.
Sharing and your name
You may share a picture of a result or a text line of your statistics. The game hands it to Android's share sheet and you choose the app that receives it; the game itself sends it nowhere and needs no storage permission. The picture shows the name of the game, the day and level, your stars, the time and a small drawing of the board. Your profile name, if you set one, is kept on your device and leaves it only inside a share picture that you send yourself.
Downloads of game content
Google Play version: Google Play installs your device languages with the app. Everything else is delivered by Google Play too, only when you ask for it: another language when you choose it in Settings > Language, the fonts of some languages when you choose such a language, and the music of paid themes when you get such a theme (the fonts and the music are on-demand asset packs). The game makes no request of its own, and Google handles the download under its privacy policy. Huawei AppGallery version: the texts of all languages are inside the app; only the fonts of Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai, Hindi and Arabic are not. These fonts and the music loops of paid themes are downloaded over HTTPS from a public repository on GitHub (github.com/NR-Games/mahjong-packs). A font is downloaded only after you agree: in a one-time offer, shown once and only if your device language needs such a font, or in Settings > Language. Music is downloaded only after you get a theme. Until a font is downloaded, the system font is used. GitHub, like any web server, then sees your IP address, the file requested and the usual technical details Android adds to a request; the game sends no account, advertising ID, cookie or game data. Details: GitHub privacy statement. If a download cannot run, the game plays on without that music and in the system font.
Google Play Games (Google Play version only)
Right after the first screen is drawn, the game asks Google Play Games whether you are signed in with your Play Games profile on this device. If you are, your achievements are saved to that profile; the sign-in itself is handled by the Play Games service of Google, and the game has no sign-in button of its own. Google processes this under its privacy policy. If you are not signed in, no achievements are sent. You can turn Play Games off in the Play Games app. There are no cloud saves.
Rating the game
After your 10th win the game may show a card asking whether you would like to rate it (at most three times, and you can answer later or never). Only if you answer yes does anything happen outside the game: the Google Play version opens Google's in-app review sheet, which Google handles under its privacy policy; the Huawei AppGallery version opens the game's page in AppGallery.
Device check (Google Play version only)
To protect purchases and rewards from cheating, the app checks that the device and the app are genuine. It asks Google Play Integrity for a verdict and sends a hardware key attestation (a certificate chain that describes the security state of the device: boot state, security patch level, the package name of the app and its signing certificate) together with the Play Integrity token to our verification service, hosted on Cloudflare. No account, name, advertising ID or game data is sent. The service keeps no data and writes no request data to logs; Cloudflare processes the IP address to deliver the request. Details: Google privacy policy, Cloudflare privacy policy. This runs in the background, rarely, and only when the phone is online. If the check cannot run (offline, no Google Play services), the game works normally. The Huawei AppGallery version makes no online device check; it only checks the device locally, and nothing leaves the phone.
Advertising
The Google Play version offers optional rewarded videos through Google AdMob (Google). Nothing is requested before you tap a video row: until then the ad service is not started and no consent question is shown. After the tap, the app first asks for your consent where the law requires it (the EEA, the UK, Switzerland and some US states; you can change it later in Settings), then loads the video. To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may process the advertising ID (the app declares the AD_ID permission for this), IP address and approximate location, device and app information, ad interactions and diagnostics. The game is not directed at children, and ads are limited to content rated for teens and older (no mature-audience ads). You can reset the advertising ID or opt out of personalized ads in your device settings. Details: Google privacy policy, how Google uses data from partner apps.
Other versions show no ads.
Purchases
Purchases are processed by Google Play and Huawei AppGallery under their own terms: Google Play Billing in the Google Play version and Huawei HMS In-App Purchases in the Huawei AppGallery version. We have no server for purchases: the store confirms what you bought, the game checks the confirmation on your phone, and we never see your payment details. Subscriptions are managed in the store. "Restore purchases" brings back what you own on the same store account.
Children
Mahjong Solitaire is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Your choices
Uninstalling the app deletes its data from your device. We hold no personal data, so there is nothing for us to export or erase. Questions about advertising data go to the ad network, questions about purchases go to the app store.
Security
All network connections the game makes, to the stores, the ad service, Play Games, the device check and the music and font downloads, are encrypted (TLS).
Changes
When something changes, we update this page and its effective date.
